We dont own a copy of the pollypot software and as such it is not supported by us.
For support for their driver best contact them.

if it is totally black, has the flash mode microswitch (next to the usb) been flipped to the other position by any chance ?

When the cdu's V1 go into standby mode it means they receive no data from the software.
* Have you checked if cables/hubs are connected ?
