You'll need a 18.5"/19" Widescreen for the current desktop model.

You need at least 390mm across to fill the PFD/ND windows.

There's nothing stopping you using those in the short term. You'll lose a few mm either side, so the displays will be smaller, but if you cut out as much light spillage from bhind the MIP as possible, it's really hard to notice the smaller monitor behind the smoked glass panels in a darkened room.

I've haven't got round to fitting my 19" monitors in place yet, so mine's kinda working like this.

17 inch will be just fine for the desktop.

19 inch is recomended for fullsetups but will cause problems wit the desktop kits.

17 inch would be too small, but on a real 737 the image isnt from bezel to bezel either (to prevent parallax), so you can use the 17 inch too.

Just make a black passepartout to prevent the monitor bezel showing.

Thanks for confirming Stef,

Was already thinking along the passepartout idea,

Now that one of my 17" monitors has no casing on it i assume by having the boards exposed and just say taped to the back of monitor wont cause any issues, ie Do i need to take any precautions with the exposed circuit boards etc??

Thanks

The inverter for the backlighting of the TFT is a (potentially lethal) high power device.

Also you always have to be carefull with electronic components.

Best would be to cover the back of the LCD, or tape it off with antistatic, non conductive plastic. You could use an old antistatic bag from a graphics card of motherboard. If you dont have them you can usually get them from electronics stores.

Sorry Steve and Stef, I got a bit mixed up here. That's because I plan to sink my 19" widescreens below desktop level, as if it were a full setup, i.e. it wont be sitting on a desk.

Having said that, I think you'll need 17" widescreens, otherwise you'll have the same problem as 19" widescreens, too high (my 17" 4:3 monitors are higher than my 19" widescreens).
